Summer Song 03:07
well as for me, I’m going where the sun don't shine so bright and I believe that summer was the highlight of our lives when you called out my name your voice rang like bees on sugarcane as the sound of water from the clouds fell down and took us off the ground was spinning round and round oh when we were found and as for now, I’m looking at the silence of the rain and how it can always take me back again when you called out my name your voice cursed my birth and then it's place I don't know how I thought of you and I back when our thoughts were all the same oh and how they changed it's such a shame they made us change now we'll float over the ground when the wind comes around knocks us off our feet and down to our knees and there'll be time for us still to enact ill wills if we please so go tell your enemies that the time has come to make amends our friends are ties broken and they lie awake half baked and shaken straight down to their bones oh now they're unclothed yeah this i know

yours' is a place for a ghost to be and you'll be a sight for these eyes to see and we'll be the ones floating free as the sun in the sky like the moon when it fell and it shattered the earth the two of us got turned to dirt so you were right, you were right all along oh but Maggie, come on I can see right through your spells and now lately you've been gone did you think I couldn't tell well if you're scared to be alone then I’ll climb into your head and we'll lay unharmed do our best to forget, to forget yours' is a place for a ghost to stay seems like it was yesterday when we said all that there was to say and then with bodies intertwined romantically you told all your thoughts to me and I lingered on every word oh but Maggie, come on I can see right through your spells and now lately you've been gone did you think I couldn't tell well if you're scared to be alone then I’ll climb into your head and we'll lay unharmed do our best to forget, to forget so give them my regards when you go skip the time if it's slow I’ll see you on the side the side of the road next to a path we know a path we both know and we’ll lay under lights from above let the water rush right up breathe it deep into our lungs feel it soak up through our clothes let them fade and melt away as we both disintegrate back to memory cause yours' is a place for a ghost to be and you'll be a sight for these eyes to see and we'll be the ones floating free as the sun

On the Move 02:50
well I know you'll be leaving soon yeah I know you'll be leaving soon wait for me, oh if you would cause I know I’ll be leaving too when the moon is on the move on the move on a light-hearted whim I’ll follow you to the lighthouse where the night shines through all those places far and out of view one look and then you’ll know it's true that the moon is on the move and so are you now the moon is on the move and are you, oh you’re on the move too well I’m done, yeah I’m through the moon can have all of you

well we stole away into the night leaving not a thing behind our path to the tree line ahead dreamt of statues made of white something like the sight of our breath in the morning air you taught me things I didn't know things located down below the thread of the clothes we wore but my structure's made of sand not stone I can't stand to be alone my head on the ground next to yours well we left it there in the frosting air with the morning cold and the trees all bare wind blowing slow over shaking ground and at night I’ll dream back to that place of a time long gone and locked away and I’ll wait for you there I left before you thought to go a choice I came to regret though I chose the sky over ground but you were part of where we lay sitting standing there you'd be lost and never found we said goodbye without a tear bodies shaking from the fear and water falling down I got up, turned and ran straight home I can't stand to be alone my head on the ground next to yours well we left it there in the frosting air with the morning cold and the trees all bare wind blowing slow over shaking ground and at night I’ll dream back to that place of a time long gone and locked away and I’ll wait for you there
5.
Twilight 02:30
so lovely, if only you could see me tonight above me you're floating in between, between twilight just tell me, something that might calm my mind and don't leave me lonely no more, not tonight come closely and hold me you said when you were mine secrets you told me fade in, into twilight just tell me something that might calm my mind when darkness keeps forming in between, between twilight

oh now, sweet September you've gone from me again left me out, I remember it gets cold round here at night but the moon doesn't care about wrong or rights and the sky wouldn't dare give me its light the ground is the only friend I have tonight and oh now, I’ve seen her listening to the quiet sound of waves crash through the ocean with a chance I just might come around and see you'll come around with me and by the shoreline we'd lay cause if I had a chance to treat you well, i would take it in, let my body swell burst explode on the sand in front of you oh but all i can say is that someday I’ll go and the moon will be lonely when it's down below and you next to the water will cry for me and then fireflies will fill the sky to make up for the lack of light but you won't find what you're looking for tonight and oh now, I’ve seen her listening to the quiet sound of waves crash through the ocean with a chance I just might come around

out of the fire and into the cold nobody said you had to go out of the light and into the glow I didn’t ask, but you should know that i wanted you to stay a while, till the morning I just wanted you to stay a while, oh darling down to the coast with rain up ahead pour over every word unsaid swear I’m a book, a book unread turning a page, like pulling a thread of a sweater left beside the bed, unfolding to unravel what’s been in your head, unspoken I just wanted you to stay a while, till the morning I just wanted us to stay alive, not haunted when the light has gone away and my head is in the ground how my thoughts all drift away like my heart is six feet down and whatever does remain well it doesn’t make a sound oh I know I shouldn’t say the quiet parts out loud I just wanted you to stay a while, till the morning when the sun rises in the sky, undaunted I just wanted you to stay a while, till the morning I just wanted this to stay alive, not haunted

Low Tide 02:27
now down by the dock where the waves unfold there's a spot where the tide gets low and I know you'll be there for me yeah I know you'll be there for me and high in the sky where the air's so cold the sun will fall as the day gets old the moon comes out when it's time to go the moon sinks down beneath your soles and I know you'll be there for me yeah I know you'll be there for me the rain may fall to wash you away but patiently I know you'll wait cause sometimes things get hazy love, oh oh oh oh and sometimes life gets crazy love, oh oh oh oh and sometimes I just need someone to guide me home and I know you'll be there for me yeah I know you'll be there for me the rain may fall to wash us away but patiently I know you'll stay hazily, I know you’ll wait I know you’ll wait I know you’ll wait I know you’ll wait
9.
Slow Down 02:46
down where rivers flow my love goes my love knows that up in skies of blue I’ve read through, most of you well slow down slow down she said when all the words are wrote the song is sung, note for note and time floats on by just stay here for a little while it slows down slows down for a bit oh I coulda stayed there all night long I woulda loved to linger on oh I coulda stayed there all night long I woulda loved to linger on oh I coulda stayed there all night long I woulda loved to linger on oh I coulda stayed there all night long I woulda loved to linger on and slow down just slow down we’ll slow down we’ll slow down she said

Rain Days 02:53
well oh yeah, we’ll let the skies decide before we’re forced to say goodbye farewell, we’re off to live our lives behind such lonesome eyes and we’ll find a place to call our own no ghosts to haunt these hollow halls in the windows cold with morning frost and autumn at the door cause I found a place oh so dear it’s a little bit far away from here a little bit farther we could go make our way down to the coast following the painted signs wearing out the weathered spines I was hoping you would say I’ll be back on rainy days so now hold onto each memory don’t let them fade, don’t let them leave how they’ll rearrange when the seasons change but the thoughts all stay the same and I found a place of so dear it’s a little bit far away from here a little bit farther we can go make our way down to the coast dig into the ground so soft lay our heads to stare straight up I was hoping you would say I’ll be back on rainy days I was hoping you would say I’ll be back on rainy days I was hoping you would say I’ll be back on rainy days I was hoping you would say I’ll be back on rainy days

about

The songs on Rain Days are out of time. They are ancient. If every cell in the body is replaced every seven years, then a different person wrote these songs. With help from an ensemble of friends, present day Chris Fox simply recorded them.

Rain Days is lovelorn yet lamenting, not only for people drifting apart but for the end of summer itself. Written by Fox when ten years younger, its songs are presented to you now fully formed.

'Now the moon // is on the move // and so are you'

For a songwriter known to make big records, here is a little one. Mostly acoustic, the folk arrangements thrive in their sparseness. Dry as a bone turned dust, accidents are left bare and uncovered. Squeaks of chairs, barks of dogs, cricket chirps, and even the earth itself permeates into each nook and cranny.

As for the backing band, the Beasts are locally sourced and listed below with pure gratitude. Accenting the album with pianos, lap steel, upright bass, mellow guitar and clarinet, they add touches of Americana and baroque pop to help bring every track to life.

In truth, the Beasts are but a myth; you mustn’t believe in them. They exist only in the songs, playing haunted melodies deep into the night. They do hope you’re listening.
